Privacy Policy
ReadMember is a commonplace book for readers of physical books. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it. We keep it short because we collect little.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and a password. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text.
- Content you create. The books you add and the passages you keep, including their text, page numbers, and the date you saved them.
- Page photos, for text only. When you capture a passage, the photo of the page is used to recognize its text. We do not store these photos on our servers.
How page photos are processed
When your device is online, the page photo is sent to Google Cloud Vision to extract the text, then discarded. When you are offline, the text is recognized on your device and the photo never leaves it. Either way, what we keep is the passage you choose to save, not the image.
Service providers
- Google Cloud Vision recognizes text in page photos when you are online.
- Resend delivers transactional email, such as password reset codes.
- Fly.io hosts the service; encrypted database backups are stored on Cloudflare R2.
What we do not do
We do not show ads. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not sell your data.
Your controls
- Delete individual passages any time from inside the app. Removing a passage erases that data for good, and your account stays intact.
- Delete your account at any time from inside the app. This removes your passages and personal details. Books you contributed to the shared catalog are kept and reassigned to a system account so other readers' saved passages are not broken.
- Reset your password with a code sent to your email.
Deleting your data
You do not have to delete your whole account to remove data. You can delete passages one at a time in the app, and you can ask us to delete some or all of your data while keeping your account by emailing hello@readmember.me from your account address. We action these requests promptly.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and access tokens are stored hashed.
Children
ReadMember is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the date above.
